Consultant Urological Surgeon

Omer Karim has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Heatherwood and Wrexham Park Hospital NHS Trust since 1995. He is also an Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon to St Mary's Hospital Paddington. He qualified at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in London in 1982. He underwent postgraduate surgical training at The Royal London Hospital and St Bartholomew's Hospital. He carried out research for his Master of Surgery whilst he was a Fellow at the Brady Urological Institute, John Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, Maryland. His research was in the molecular response of the bladder to outflow obstruction. He has a particular interest in nerve sparing radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer and has performed over 300 radical prostatectomies. He trained in laparoscopic surgery in Paris and the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg. He is keen on innovative technologies and is an experienced user of the greenlight laser or photoselective vapourisation of the prostate (PVP) in daycase prostatectomy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
